The River Falls High School powerlifting team placed 12 individuals in the top ten, including a state champion in senior J.P. Eaton, at the girls and boys state championships earlier this month in Necedah and Wisconsin Dells.
Eaton used a 700-pound squat to lift a total of 1,600 pounds and win the state championship in the 275-pound weight class at the Wisconsin High School Boys Powerlifting Championships in Wisconsin Dells March 9.
McKenzie Curtis paced the Wildcat girls with a third place total of 905 pounds in the 198-pound weight class at the girls state championships in Necedah March 2.
Eight River Falls boys and seven girls are now qualified for the USA Powerlifting High School National Championships April 5-7 in Aurora, Colo.
Other top ten finishers for the Wildcat boys included Mark Miller and Jordan Kaiser, who each placed fourth in their respective weight classes. Miller lifted a total of 865 pounds in the 132 pound class while Kaiser totaled 1,380 in the 198 pound division.
Chase Larson finished fifth in the 114 pound weight class with a total of 635 pounds, and Kenny Oberlin took eighth at 123 pounds while Riley Tschumper finished 10th at 132 with a total of 585.
Other Wildcat total included Colton Jones with 1,200 pounds, Brian Grove with 1,010, Dylan Tschumper with 995 and Lucas Henk with 935.
In addition to Curtis’ third place finish at the girls state meet in Necedah, Anna Brettingen finished fourth in the 165 pound weight class with a total of 830 pounds and Natasha Dusek placed fifth at 198 pounds with a total of 770.
Leah Morrow, at 123, and Kathy Francisco, at 198, both finished seventh with totals of 665 and 765 pounds, respectively. Cecily Ripley placed tenth at 123 pounds with a total of 650 pounds while Mikayla Hansen lifted a total of 570 in the 148 pound class.
