Stephen McConnell - Popular Area Photographer - Beloved Husband, Son, Uncle, Great-Uncle, Brother-in-Law, Godfather, Cousin, and Friend passed away unexpectedly at home on March 9.
Stephen was born to Charles and Rose McConnell in Eau Claire, Wis. He spent majority of childhood years in the Eau Claire and Minneapolis, Minn., areas and later moved to Georgia. As a young man of age 15, he was completely bitten by shutterbug and film processing and rarely put a camera down after that. He graduated from Harlem High, Harlem, Ga.
Longing to return to the Midwest, he packed his bags after graduation and returned to Minnesota where he began a 24-year career with 3M Co. in St. Paul. Within the first few years he lived in the area, he met Terry. They married and moved to River Falls where they made a loving, joy-filled life together the past 36+ years.
While at 3M, Steve spent many years in the IT department focusing on computers and software applications. Eventually, he was offered the opportunity to achieve his dream job in joining the corporate audio-visual department where he spent several years as a department photographer. During that time, he continued to keep his photography skills and interests alive by operating a part-time photography business. In 1996, he began a full-time career operating a studio, dedicating his talent and passion to all types of photography and education.
He was a member of Wisconsin Indianhead Region Professional Photographers Assoc. and served as president from 2003-2004. He belonged to numerous professional photographers state and national associations.
Stephen was an avid Packers and Badgers football fan and also enjoyed music, boating, traveling, tailgating, anything Hawaiian, and decorating for Christmas. He loved planning events in preparation of spending time with family, friends, and adored nieces Lisa, Angie, Patti, Mandy, and Stacey; nephews Christopher, Michael, Mark, John; great-nieces Sydney, Mia, Sienna, Abigail; great-nephews Connor, Frankie, Michael; and godchild Justin.
Preceding him in death was his father, Charles McConnell; mother-in-law, Lena; and grandfather Gus.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; mother, Rose McConnell of Mondovi, Wis.; family members, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many relatives and friends.
