Cheek-swab drive seeks matching donor

Grace Goblirsch, a 2011 graduate of River Falls High School and daughter of Gregory and Sue Goblirsch, battles acute leukemia and needs a bone-marrow transplant. A matching donor is sought through a cheek-swab drive held 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 211 E. Division St.

Potential matching donors can quickly provide a sample, which involves rubbing a swab against the inside of a person’s cheek for about 10 seconds with the approximate pressure of a toothbrush. People not able to attend but who would like to test and see if they’re a matching bone-marrow donor for Grace can order a swab kit sent to their home by going online to http:marrow.org, the online home of National Marrow Donor Program.
