As a part of January’s National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for volunteers to make the resolution to make a difference in a child’s life. Everyone is invited to attend the event which will feature snacks, stories from current volunteers, and information about the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
These events are no obligation and are offered to anyone who has thought about volunteering or just wants to learn more about Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In 2012 Big Brothers Big Sisters served 482 children in Eau Claire, Chippewa, Dunn, St. Croix, and Pierce counties.
“We always have more children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister than we have volunteers enrolling in the program. Our goal for 2013 is to start off strong by encouraging community members to volunteer to make a difference in the life of a child and help us match many of the children on our waiting list,” says St. Croix Valley Branch Director Michel Tigan. “Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is as simple as spending one hour a week with a child doing something simple you both enjoy such as throwing a ball, watching a movie, going fishing, or even taking your dog for a walk.”
