On Monday, Jan. 21, members of the FORWARD Foundation presented nine grants that totaled $8,500 to teachers within the River Falls School District. The following grants were awarded:

• Becky McAleavey: $1,000 to create a globally and culturally diverse resource lending library for the RF4C (four-year-old kindergarten) program. Examples of items include: Multicultural menus and food sets; fabric world maps; dolls; puppets; and puzzles from around the world.

• Carrie Loney: $400 to buy world instruments for the high school choir and to have visiting musicians demonstrate techniques for playing these instruments.

• Jayne Hoffman and Sherry Powell: $700 to buy tablets for the Westside Title 1 Math program in conjunction with regular third grade classroom instruction.

• Linda Berg: $800 to create a pilot hybrid course co-taught with UWRF faculty entitled “The Science of Food” designed to focus on sustainable food supply on a global basis.

• Toni Velure: $850 to buy student novels for sixth grade literature classes that address global issues as well as the Wisconsin State Reading Standards.

• Paul Haugland: $1,500 to buy a 3D printer that will supplement the Project Lead the Way curriculum in the High School Engineering Design & CADD classes.

• Keven Dorn: $1,500 to buy a 3D printer that will supplement the Project Lead the Way curriculum at Meyer Middle School.

• Bridget Lyons: $1,000 to create a music listening lab at Greenwood Elementary on iPods. The lab will include a variety of musicals styles, genres and cultures.

• Christine Engel: $750 to buy Spanish language children’s books for the elementary media centers.
