Public Information Open House Meeting

S. Main St. Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation

Tuesday, January 29, 2013 - 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The City of River Falls is planning a concrete pavement rehabilitation project for South Main Street from Cemetery Road to Locust Street. The project will also include the short concrete segments of Cascade Avenue that extend less than a block east and west of South Main Street. The roadway south of the bridge over the South Fork of the Kinnickinnic River was constructed in 1973. The concrete roadways north of the bridge were constructed in 1992.

Until 2011, most of this roadway was on the State Connecting Highway system as State Highway 29/35. In 2011, State Highway was moved to Cemetery Road. Under an agreement with WisDOT, the City has received funds that it plans to utilize for this concrete rehabilitation project.

The reason for undertaking this project at this time is to extend the useful life of the pavement on South Main Street. Although this pavement is 40 years old and in reasonably good condition, there are a number of pavement defects throughout the project that if left unchecked will contribute towards an earlier failure of this roadway. A rehabilitation project at this time will extend the useful life of this pavement by up to 20 years.

In general the work involves:

• Partial and Full Depth Repair

• Bridge Approach Panel Repair/Replacement

• Partial and Full Panel Replacement

• Joint Sealing

• Catch Basin Repair

• Manhole Repair

• Curb and Gutter Repair

• Sidewalk Repairs

• Traffic Signal Loop Replacement

• Pavement Striping

Work on this project is expected to take six weeks and occur between Memorial Day and Labor Day this summer. Preliminary plans call for the road to be open to automobile traffic with a possible detour for any large truck traffic.

A Public Information Open House Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Training Room located in the lower level of City Hall at 222 Lewis Street. Please plan to drop in any time during that open house to discuss plans for the project with the engineers involved.
