High School Principal Elaine Baumann announced on her 62nd birthday Monday, Jan. 14, that she was retiring.
She has submitted a letter of resignation to Superintendent Tom Westerhaus that will be officially accepted at the school board’s regular meeting Monday evening, Jan. 21.
Baumann has been with the school district for 25 years -- from 1988-93 as an instrumental music and band teacher at Meyer Middle School and the high school; from 1993-98 as middle school assistant principal; from 1998-2002 as middle school principal; and from 2002 until now, high school principal.
Her retirement will be effective at the end of the current school year.
Baumann said she felt honored to work in such a “high-caliber school district,” which included “top-notch staff” and “great families.”
“It’s been a wonderful, wonderful job,” she said Tuesday from her office.
Baumann has no specific retirement plans though she admitted she loves to travel.
In the future, she also didn’t rule out returning to work in some capacity in the education field “if the right opportunity arose.”
