A man formerly of River Falls was charged Monday, Jan. 14, in Pierce County Circuit Court with first-degree sexual assault of a child and incest, crimes allegedly committed in River Falls.
Brian J. Dufrene, 47, formerly of River Falls and now of Oakdale, Minn., will make his first court appearance at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 25, on the charges. The sexual assault is a Class B felony and incest is a Class C felony.
According the criminal complaint:
Pierce County law enforcement became aware of the allegations Dec. 17 when a family member reported it. She told officers Dufrene had made the pre-teen victim touch a part of his genitals.
A different family member told law enforcement he confronted Dufrene about the charge and Dufrene admitted to doing inappropriate things with the victim, but never said what.
Less than two weeks later, Pierce County investigators interviewed the victim. The victim described the whole incident, including layout and the fact this wasn’t the first time an alleged assault happened.
If Dufrene is found guilty, the Class B felony carries a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison and the Class C felony carries a fine of $100,000 and/or 40 years in prison.
