The Wildcat boys swim and dive team kicked off the 2012-13 season with a fifth place finish at the nine-team Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Head coach Kirk Gednalske said the team looked good in its first meet of the season.
“We've had a great start to the season,” he said. “Three weeks of focused practice
helped us to some great first swims. A few of the guys beat their best
times from last season. That’s difficult to do but a great sign for the upcoming
The Cats’ 200 yard medley relay team of Isaac Dzubay, Tom Ramquist, Ethan Larsen and Alex Haskins kicked off the meet by placing third with a time of 1 minute, 51.02 seconds.
Ramquist posted the Cats’ highest individual finish of the day, placing second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.84, while teaming up with Collin Nielson, Dzubay and Haskins for a third place time of 1:37.85 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Ramquist led three Wildcats who picked up points in the 100 butterfly, placing fifth in 1:00.91. Nic Fugate was ninth in the event in 1:09.66 while Larsen finished 11th in 1:11.02.
Haskins was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.16 seconds and Dzubay placed fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.78. Haskins was seventh in the 100 back in 1:03.93 while Dzubay added a sixth place time of 55.2 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
Andrew Tiede led the Cats in the 500 free, placing eighth with a time of 6:16.41, and in the 200 free, finishing 17th in 2:21.46 while Austin Lynum boosted the Cats’ team score with an 11th place time of 1:20.13 in the 100 breaststroke and finished 17th in the 200 individual medley in 2:50.26.
The Cats had two relay teams score points in the final event of the meet -- the 400 freestyle relay. Nielson, Fugate, Larsen and Nick Jubie combined for a 10th place time of 4:09.23, while Nicholas Sos, Carl Tiede, Andrew Tiede and Monroe Maher finished 11th in 4:26.23.
The Cats are off this week before hosting Red Wing in their home opener Thursday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the high school.
