Letter: Speaker, our group, treated fairly; message was well worth hearing

CCC, the Coalition for a Compassionate Community, recently hosted a visit to River Falls for Viking punter Chris Kluwe.

Originally planned for the high school and middle school, his visit was moved to UW-River Falls and the public library.

Curiosity about the reason for this change led to some mistaken ideas. School administrators have been very supportive to CCC ever since the coalition was born a year ago.

We believe they have the right and responsibility to determine who speaks to our students, and we respect their judgment.

Kluwe became a controversial figure during the recent election, as he has strong opinions and speaks his mind.

During a full hour at the library, he advocated values and ideals congruent with everything CCC believes, including the Golden Rule.

He could have done that at the schools too, but nothing was lost by the change of venue.

We are grateful to the Minnesota Vikings for allowing Chris Kluwe to express his views in River Falls.
