Cascade closed in April for a major reconstruction of the 70-year-old roadway. The extensive work included replacing aging, underground utility infrastructure and sidewalks.
The re-opening marks a milestone in the project that transformed the roadway from old and worn to new and polished. The improvements built in better safety for pedestrians and vehicles, moved parking off the street and added two roundabouts.
Travelers in all modes see a narrower street, gentle curves, new brick pavers, thousands of landscaping plants, dozens of trees and new streetlights. The multi-million dollar project required collaboration between city, university and state officials and agencies.
