Most sources agree that the purposes of DST are rooted in making the most out of the warm seasons’ long periods of daylight -- for farming, chores, work and saving money on electricity and fuel.
Arizona and Hawaii do not observe DST.
The Wisconsin Department of Agricultural, Trade and Consumer Protection suggests that people change the batteries in their smoke and/or carbon-monoxide detectors at the same time they turn back their clocks.
DST begins again 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013.
