Schaffhausen trial set for April 1-24

A four-week trial has been scheduled for next April in the case of Aaron Schaffhausen, who is accused of killing his three young daughters in River Falls July 10.

A four-week trial has been scheduled for next April in the case of Aaron Schaffhausen.

He is accused of killing his three young daughters in River Falls July 10 and planning to burn down the home where the girls and their mother lived. The trial dates were set Thursday.

The case is proceeding in St. Croix County Circuit Court while Schaffhausen’s attorney tries to get an appeals court to stop a sheriff’s mental health expert from visiting the prisoner’s jail cell three days a week.

His lawyer says the sheriff is trying to bait Schaffhausen into telling the counselor something that can be used against him at trial.

The trial is due to begin April 1, with four other hearings beginning Nov. 21.

Schaffhausen, 35, is accused of killing Cecilia, Sophie and Arama Schaffhausen, ages 5 to 11. He and his ex-wife were divorced in January, and the mother allowed her ex-husband to see the youngsters alone on the day of the murders.

He’s charged with three counts of homicide and one count of attempted arson.
