Lowered flag honors longtime senator

President Barack Obama has issued a proclamation that flag at all public facilities be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, Oct. 16 as a mark of respect for the memory of U.S. Senator Arlen Specter, who died Sunday, Oct. 14.

The flags fly low on the day of Specter’s interment. He was the longest-serving senator in Pennsylvania, with a 30-year career, and he once ran for president.
