Wildcats advance to golf sectional

The River Falls’ girls golf team advanced to the sectional round of WIAA tournament play with a second place finish at the New Richmond Regional Wednesday, Sept. 26. The WIAA Sectional tournament will be played Monday, Oct. 1, at the Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point.

The River Falls’ girls golf team advanced to the sectional round of WIAA tournament play with a second place finish at the New Richmond Regional Wednesday, Sept. 26.

The WIAA Sectional tournament will be played Monday, Oct. 1, at the Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point.

Middle Border Conference champion New Richmond won Wednesday’s regional title on its home course with a team score of 344, while three-time big Rivers Conference champion River Falls was second with 356. Rice Lake advanced with a third place score of 380 and Eau Claire North moved on by placing fourth with 389.

Junior Halle Hauer paced the Wildcats with a round of 82, one stroke behind medalist Alex Wheeler of New Richmond. Sophomore Sydney Brunholz tied for seventh with an 89 and senior Katie Byron tied for tenth with 92 while junior Rachael Meyer shot a 93 to round out the Wildcats’ team score. Junior Abby James finished with a 96.

The four New Richmond Regional qualifiers will go up against the top four teams from the Tomah Regional Monday in Stevens Point for the two available spots in the WIAA State Tournament Oct. 8-9 in Madison.
