Baseball star bolsters local boy’s recovery

Jacob Wheeler, the 12-year-old boy from River Falls who was hit by a school bus Sept. 7, had his spirits lifted last week after being greeted by Minnesota Twins superstar catcher Joe Mauer at Gillette Children’s Specialty HealthCare in St. Paul.

Jacob Wheeler, the 12-year-old boy from River Falls who was hit by a school bus Sept. 7, had his spirits lifted last week after being greeted by Minnesota Twins superstar catcher Joe Mauer at Gillette Children’s Specialty HealthCare in St. Paul. Mauer was at the hospital to dedicate a new playroom that he donated. Afterward he visited with many young patients in their rooms. As of Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman described Wheeler’s condition as fair.
