An eastbound moped driver skidded on his side to avoid a collision on Cemetery Road by River Falls High School as a 17-year-old girl was pulling out of the student parking lot. A collision was avoided, but the moped driver, 71-year-old Richard E. Boehner, 1450 S. Wasson Lane #82, was taken away by ambulance for what was officially described as "incapacitating injuries."

The accident took place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Anita A. Fraser, 17, W9321 637 Ave., a high school senior, was later cited for failing to yield while making a lefthand turn. She was given an $88.80 fine.

Police Chief Roger Leque said Fraser told an officer on the scene that she thought the oncoming moped driver was getting ready to turn right into the high school parking lot and that it was OK for her to pull out and turn west (left) onto Cemetery Road.

Boehner's injuries were sustained as he lay his moped on its side while traveling toward the student parking lot entrance. His maneuver was meant to avoid hitting Fraser's car.

River Falls Police, Fire and Ambulance, as well as a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy responded to this call.

Cemetery Road was closed for a short time.
