Lowered flags honor 9/11 victims, patriots

By order of the governor, flags at Wisconsin National Guard armories, air bases and other facilities across the state will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sept. 11 as a mark of respect and honor to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, as well as members of the armed forces defending American freedom overseas.

Executive order #82 includes clauses describing the reasons why Congress declared Patriot Day one of national remembrance and service. It also mentions a triumph of the American spirit, unity, sacrifice, pain, patriotism, democracy, liberty and the faithful service of the country’s law enforcement, emergency responders and everyday-but-heroic citizens.
