River Falls scored on its first three possessions of the game and added a defensive safety to take a 23-0 first quarter lead on its way to a 36-6 victory over Eau Claire North in the Big Rivers Conference opener for both teams Friday night, Aug. 31, at David Smith Stadium at Ramer Field.

The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season while Eau Claire North fell to 0-2.

Alex Call hit Brad Freeborn for a 27-yard touchdown pass and ran for a 25-yard score to stake the Wildcats to an early 14-0 lead.

Eau Claire North was pinned at its own three yard line on the ensuing kickoff and on first down Alex Wunrow and Mitch Cowley teamed up to sack Husky quarterback Adam Faanes in the end zone for a safety.

The Wildcats took the free kick at the Husky 42-yard line and four plays later Call found Sam Purfeerst for a 14-yard touchdown to make it a 23-0 game with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter.

Running back Sam Lenzen took a direct snap and scored on a five yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, and after an interception by Ryan Tierney gave the Wildcats a first-and-ten at the Husky 30 yard-line, John Maillette took a handoff on the very next play and went up the middle to pay dirt to make it a 36-0 game and institute a running clock.

The Huskies got on the board with just over a minute remaining to make the final 36-6.
