Seven people have been charged, after authorities seized $15 million dollars’ worth of marijuana from the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Oconto County.

It was the third time in three years that a large pot-growing operation was found in the northeast Wisconsin part of the forest. Ed Wall of the state Justice Department said authorities were tipped off by a fisherman in June.

They’re still trying to find out how long the marijuana had been growing in the forest. Federal, state, and local officers seized about 15,000 plants from dozens of locations near the south branch of the Oconto River in the towns of Mountain and Doby.

Wall said some of the plants were already harvested – while others were in good condition. A federal court complaint has been drafted against a woman and six men.
