Karyl Enstad Rommelfanger submitted these photos of the 1958 campus school reunion held recently at the West Wind. She is gathering information on the campus school and would appreciate information and photos from any year. Call 920-905-4911 or email her at karylr@att.net. The older photo is their second grade class photo, and she also sent some of her memories of attending the “school on campus:

“Taken on the north steps of the east wing of North Hall — exactly where our second-grade picture was also taken.

“The east wing of North Hall held the Campus School classrooms for roughly 50 years. When the new school was built, it was renamed Ames Lab School, but none of us attended that school.

“Our class was the first class offered pre-kindergarten in 1948. Many of us stayed all ten years in the Campus School, through eighth grade. We were a mixture of “city kids’ and “country kids” and some of our classmates were children of college professors.

“If anyone asked where we attended school, we said that we attended “the Campus School” or that we went to “the college.” Someone talked to me on the street once (we talked to strangers back then) and asked where I attended school. I said that I went to “the college.” I was about 12 at the time, and this gentleman thought I went to college and was very impressed! I had to correct that impression.

“When St. Bridget’s elementary school opened in 1953, some of our classmates transferred there.

“We were all reunited in high school and graduated in 1962 — our high school class just celebrated our 50th reunion, which allowed also for this Campus School get-together.”
