Delores Lucille Younggren, age 92, of River Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls.
Delores Lucille Younggren, age 92, of River Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls.
She was born on April 21, 1919, to Nels and Patsie Devonport, in Independence, Wis. Growing up, she was proud to be the prom queen of Arcadia and the poster girl for Maytag wringer washing machines. She married Wilmer "Bill”" in the Little Brown Church in The Vale in Iowa. Together, they adopted two sons, William "Bill" in 1949 and Michael in 1952. She spent the early years of marriage on the farm in Mann Valley. She later worked for Sears Catalogue Store in River Falls and also for the Minneapolis Star Tribune as a newspaper distributor for many years. She and Bill opened and operated BY's Chicken Shack in River Falls in 1968.
Delores was a great cook and loved to bake. She especially loved baking cinnamon rolls for her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were crossword puzzles and following River Falls Falcon football with her close friends. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren. They would hike through the woods to their log house on the path that grandpa mowed through the woods.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son William; sister Ione; and brother Dave.
She is survived by her son Michael (Mary Shannon) Younggren of Wausau, Wis.; grandchildren, Luke (Maggie) Younggren of Portland, Ore., Michael (Brooke) of Madison, Wis., and Jack (Angela) of New Brighton; great-grandchildren, Cooper, McKinley, Nora, and Angelo; sister Irene Hense of Florida; nieces and nephews, Tom and Dick Kostner of Bloomer and Patti (Kostner) Rank of Menomonie, Rick and Barbara Hense of Florida, and Dave and John Devenport of Minnesota.
A memorial service for Delores was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls. Visitation was from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
