Disturber of the peace tells officer: Gone fishing

It was four thirty in the morning on a Saturday, Aug. 4. An elderly tenant in the 400 block of South Fifth Street was jarred from his sleep by pounding and rattling that he said made it seem as if the “whole house was shaking.” River Falls police officers responded and found a 21-year-old man on the porch. He seemed drunk and covered in dirt and mud, as if he’d fallen. Asked what he was doing, the man said he was just fishing from the front steps of the porch.

Earlier in the night, a male friend of the suspect called police to report that the man, who attended UW-River Falls last year, was missing.

The 21-year-old was eventually taken to the police station, booked there and given a $177 fine for disorderly conduct.

He was then given a courtesy ride by police to his friend’s apartment at 1071 E. Cascade Ave.

River Falls police also:

--Arrested and cited two brothers, ages 25 and 30, where they live with their parents in the 100 block of North Ninth Street for marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession at that address last Thursday night, Aug. 2. Officers were sent there because of a call about suspicious drug activity. A search inside turned up a small amount of marijuana, numerous pot pipes kept in a cooler, roach clips, metal grinders, scale and more that was seized as evidence. The brothers were each given fines totaling $344 and have a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, municipal court date scheduled.

--Arrested a 26-year-old local man for drunk driving at Main and Maple streets last Thursday, Aug. 2, before 1 a.m. after he allegedly made an illegal U-turn. The man had a male and a female passenger – the woman was seated in the bed of the truck bed. During booking at the police station, the 26-year-old was described as argumentative. He told officers that he had gone to school to be a cop and that they weren’t following procedures. Later, while being released, he swore at an officer. The woman who came for him to provide sober care apologized for his conduct, saying the man had problems and was attending anger-management classes.
