Cascade roadwork in River Falls: View from the roundabout

While it won’t open until later fall, much of the heavy-duty reconstruction of East Cascade Avenue has already been completed. Occasionally you’ll find a few strollers on the university side of Cascade or a bicyclist -- like the one shown in the accompanying picture -- who crosses the campus and the roundabout at Sixth Avenue while pedaling east Friday morning, July 27.

Stone work has begun for the roundabouts at Sixth and Second streets where they intersect with East Cascade.

Black dirt, seeding and watering was also being done Friday along the north-side boulevards that had to be redone because of the roadwork.

Meanwhile, also near East Cascade Avenue, more construction got underway across from UW-River Falls’ North Hall.

Bulldozers were piling up huge mounds of dirt and gravel for what will be an expanded, newly paved Q Lot. The metered lot area will also claim what used to be a stretch of the city’s Third Street.

East Cascade remains closed for the summer during this massive redesign/construction project.
