Addie and Maggie Johnson wanted do something to help remember the late Sophie Schaffhausen so with the assistance of their mother, Heather, an assistant at the River Falls Public Library, the girls assembled a refreshment stand in front of their grandparents house on Crescent Street, Tuesday afternoon, July 17.

Adeline, 4, and Margaret, 7, served chilled lemonade with complimentary cookies to dozens of people for nearly five hours. The contribution jar appeared to contain at least $35. Heather said one of her daughters was acquainted with Sophie through library activities so generating funds for a book-related memorial seemed fitting. Tuesday's community service effort was their second in three days, said mom. On Saturday, July 14, the girls and younger sister Kathryn, staffed a water stop for participants in the River Falls Days 10k run -- again, in the front yard at their grandparents, Doug and Cathy Hjersjo.

Update: Heather reports the girls raised a total of $323 to add to the memorial. Steve Dzubay photo.
