Kinnickinnic cancels deal with firm

The Kinnickinnic regular Town Board meeting was kept short and sweet on Tuesday, July 3.

The board approved joining the Urban Towns Committee to gain access to educational Wisconsin Towns Association webinars during the 30 minute meeting.

Memberships are $100 and include 20 WTA webinars at no additional cost. Non-members pay $100 per webinar, according to Town Clerk Lola Higgins.

“I guess it would make more sense to just become a member,” said Chairman Roger Van Beek.

Discussion continued on retracting an agreement with Midwest Natural Gas that allows the company to expand business within the town.

The retracting proposal was brought up at the June Town Board meeting. Town attorney Bob Loberg was asked to review the agreement to see if Kinnickinnic was able to cancel it, and he said the town can.

A previous dispute over an emergency fire call bill prompted the discussion of ending the agreement with Midwest Natural Gas.

It was brought to the board’s attention last month that Midwest Gas is not in favor of cooperating with the town on its emergency fire call policies according to a draft of the June 4 meeting minutes.

“Can we give them some notice of the action before we take action?” asked Supervisor Mae Wolfe.

“Let’s retract the resolution,” said Supervisor Bill Gnatzig. “If we come to some agreement with them, we can pass a new one. There is a safety issue to consider”

The board unanimously approved retracting the agreement with Midwest Natural Gas for expansion within Kinnickinnic.

It was also announced at last month’s meeting that the town of Kinnickinnic will receive a grant of $246,027 for the Quarry Road Project from the TRIP grant awarded by the state.
