Supreme Court rules in strip club’s favor

The State Supreme Court ruled the morning of Thursday, July 5, that Dell Prairie town officials were wrong to limit the scope of a liquor license for a strip club just north of Wisconsin Dells in Adams County.

In 2009, the Wisconsin Dolls asked the town of Dell Prairie to renew its liquor license, which applied across its entire eight-acre site. But the town board said the new license would only cover the club’s main building – and nothing else.

The strip club sued the town – and Adams County Circuit Judge Charles Pollex and an appeals court both agreed with the town’s action. The state high court said towns do not have the power to unilaterally change a description of premises for a liquor-license renewal.

The justices said they need to pass a new ordinance that would treat all liquor license holders the same – or else negotiate with the applicant in question. The town’s attorney said he was disappointed with today’s ruling.
