An 89-year-old town of River Falls man was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul Wednesday evening after the utility vehicle he was driving was hit by a car on Hwy. 29 about a mile east of River Falls.
The injured man is Ed Hanson, who farms along that section of highway. The accident occurred near 900th Street.
At about 10 a.m. Thursday, a spokeswoman for Regions said Hanson was in good condition.
River Falls police were dispatched to the scene at 6:15 p.m. and assisted with traffic control for about an hour.
According to radio transmissions the man was reported to be lying on the road, conscious but injured.
According to a report from Pierce County Deputy Andrew Thoms late Thursday afternoon, his department was notified of the accident at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, June 27.
Investigation showed that a 1997 Mazda Protégé driven by Daniel A. Hetchler, 46, River Falls, was traveling west on Hwy 29 when Hanson was attempting to cross the highway. Hanson was operating a Jacobsen Textron utility vehicle and headed south when the vehicle was struck by the car.
Hanson was throw off the vehicle and first taken to River Falls Area Hospital by River Falls Area Ambulance. Hetchler was not injured.
Also assisting at the scene was the River Falls Area Fire Department.
Hanson and his wife, Betty, were featured in a River Falls Journal article last August as they prepared to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Betty Hanson died Feb. 18, 2012, at the couple’s town of River Falls home.
