The town of Troy will soon be in the market for a clerk/treasurer. It was announced at the Thursday, June 14, regular Town Board meeting that Sharon Provos will be resigning from that twin role to take a similar, full-time job with the city of Little Canada in Minnesota.

Provos, who lives in the town of Hudson, has held the appointed, part-time clerk/treasurer position in Troy for almost 10 years. She will remain on the job in Troy until July 23.

Employment ads for the Troy clerk/treasurer position will appear soon in the local papers.

Discussion of the proposed fire-protection wells continued at the meeting with Cedar Corp’s Rob Jones giving more project details.

“The next step is to conduct a study to try to move towards picking locations for these wells,” said Jones. “The study would look at factors like fire call response times and the geology in the town to see if we’d have the yield we need to install these.”

Funding for the wells will come from “impact fees” that have been set aside specifically for projects in a 2003 Needs Assessment. The duration of the study would be around two months, according to Jones.

“I’m all for safety in our town, but I’d like to see it done correctly. Bang for your buck,” said Supervisor David Hense. “I’d like to see the money spent wisely, we need to take baby steps.”

Said Knapp: “I think this study is the next baby step. We would also need to take a closer look at what alternate water supplies are already available.”

After further discussion the board passed the proposal to conduct a study as the next step in installing the fire protection wells. Hense voted no.
