State Golf: Cats finish 8th

The River Falls boys’ golf team moved up one spot from Monday’s first round to finish eighth at the WIAA State Golf Tournament Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison. The Wildcats cut one stroke off Monday’s team total of 328 to post a 327 Tuesday and finish with a two-day total of 655.

The River Falls boys’ golf team moved up one spot from Monday’s first round to finish eighth at the WIAA State Golf Tournament Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison.

The Wildcats cut one stroke off Monday’s team total of 328 to post a 327 Tuesday and finish with a two-day total of 655. Arrowhead won the state title with two-day score of 611 (307-304) while first-day leader Holmen finished second with 618 (305-313).

Wildcats Garrett Loomis and Holden Ohlsen tied for 47th place with scores of 163. Loomis carded an 81 Monday and 82 Tuesday while Ohlsen shot 85 Monday and a team-low 78 Tuesday.

Blake Heiman, who led the Wildcats with a first round score of 80, came back with an 84 Tuesday to finish with a total score of 164, while Jake Knotek had a 167 (82-85) and Mike Xiong 168 (85-83).

Jordan Niebrugge of Homestead won the individual state title with an 8 under-par total of 136 (70-66).
