Trying to better market the school district to prospective families and students, the school board Monday night, May 21, OK’d logo concepts that establishes a “branding identity.”

A marketing/branding committee of local volunteers explained its ongoing work to define and promote the school district to the community and beyond.

The committee choose the theme word “Potential” as the logo’s centerpiece.

Other key words and phrases, such as “personalized learning,” will encircle the “potential.”

Committee member Samantha Bluhm -- marketing director at River Falls Medical Clinic -- said the new logo, which includes the gold and blue school district colors, is not static but pliable.

She said each school, a class of students, even individual students can add or subtract from the logo’s outer words that still encircle the all-embracing “Potential.” These could be words like “sustainability” or “technology.”

Dale Bohnert, another committee member, referred to this flexibility as “the power to personalize the logo.”

Johnson Myers replied, “I’m intrigued by how dynamic it is.”

The committee’s presentation about the logo also bulleted other points, including:

  • It speaks to our promise.

  • It’s unique, fresh and eye-catching; it engages the viewer

  • It can be related and relevant to all facets of the district.

The new logo can be used by the school district on business cards, mailing envelopes, letterheads, the district’s website and more.

“This gives us a platform that we can jump off and say, ‘This is what we are becoming’,” Bluhm said.

Other committee members were Brian Dado, Cheryl Hoffman, Darlene MacBride, Jayne Hoffman, Karen Sizemore, Kim Quayle, Jennifer Quayle, board member Manny Kenney and Superintendent Tom Westerhaus.

Johnson Myers said the new logo and branding will be a platform for “presenting our district.”

The school board approved the logo 6-0.
