After dropping a pair of one run games to open the season, the River Falls Fighting Fish amateur baseball team picked up its first victory of the season, 13-7, over the Isanti Redbirds Sunday afternoon at the high school field.

The defending Wisconsin state champion Fish used a 10-run third inning and five different pitchers to defeat the Minnesota Class C state champion Redbirds on Mother’s Day.

The Fish, now 1-2 on the season, will open St. Croix Valley Baseball League play this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Plum City Legion Park against the Plum City Blues. They return home Sunday to host the Chaseburg-Coon Valley Blues of the Mississippi Valley league in a rematch of last year’s 11-inning state tournament quarterfinal game at 1 p.m. at the high school field. Free Fighting Fish t-shirts will be given out at the game courtesy of Imaging World.
