Hudson, RF dominate BRC track meet

Hudson and River Falls swept the top two spots in both the boys’ and girls’ competition at the 2012 Big Rivers Conference Track and Field Championships Tuesday at Eau Claire North High School. The Raider boys won all four relay events on their way to their fourth straight BRC title while Hudson’s girls posted a total of eight first place finishes to win their eighth straight conference championship.

Hudson and River Falls swept the top two spots in both the boys’ and girls’ competition at the 2012 Big Rivers Conference Track and Field Championships Tuesday at Eau Claire North High School.

The Raider boys won all four relay events on their way to their fourth straight BRC title while Hudson’s girls posted a total of eight first place finishes to win their eighth straight conference championship.

Hudson’s boys finished with 173.5 points to take first while River Falls was second with 132. In the girls’ competition, Hudson won with 168 while River Falls was second with 121.

Hudson’s Ryan Kromer and Katie Wetzstein won individual titles in their respective 1600 and 3200 meter races while Brett DuCharme, Sam Somerville and Wade Malecha swept the top three spots in the boys’ 110 meter high hurdles.

Brandon D’Andrea won the 200 meter dash title with teammate Tucker Malecha placing second while Bryan Caffin took first in the shot put.

River Falls’ boys had three individual champions—Nicholas Dildy in the 400 meter dash, Mitch Lenneman in the 800 meter run, and Auggie Pupungatoa in the discus.

Hudson’s Katie Thielman won the girls’ 100 meter dash title and Casey Fall took first in the pole vault while Taylor Steffen won the shot put. Hudson’s girls also won conference titles in the 400, 800 and 3200 meter relay.

River Falls’ Karlie Place won the girls’ long jump title while teammate Hannah Morrow was champion in the discus.
