A 19-year-old UW-River Falls male student was stopped for speeding on Main Street and an I.D. card violation (2nd offense) before midnight Sunday, April 29. The student allegedly told the officer that the fake Wisconsin driver’s license in his wallet was needed for a school class he was taking. He also said he paid $400 for it from a website that sends out fake identifications. The same student was cited in February for trying to use another fake I.D. to buy booze.By: Phil Pfuehler, River Falls Journal

River Falls police also:
--Twice cited another 19-year-old male UWRF student, this one for shoplifting booze from EconoFoods last month. The student was allegedly stopped leaving the store last Thursday afternoon, April 26. Told to show his hands, he said he couldn’t because he would drop the three liquor bottles he was holding under his coat. Surveillance video seemed to show the same student stole two other bottles of hard liquor from the store on April 20. He was given two $177 citations and a six-month no-trespass notice to EconoFoods.
--Cited a 29-year-old man in the apartments at 117 Church St. for loud noise after 3 a.m. Saturday, April 28. Police were called to the man’s apartment twice about party noise complaints. Each time the man said he was just hanging out with friends, doing some drinking and grooving to good musical vibrations. On the second visit, the officer gave the man a $114 fine for the bad vibrations.
--Cited a 20-year-old UWRF student for drunk driving, hit and run, obstruction, failure to notify police of an accident, and drug paraphernalia possession following a crash at South Main Street and Cemetery Road last week late Wednesday night, April 25. The student allegedly ran into a utility pole with his car, tried to get others nearby to push his car free and then ran away north. His car was inspected, then towed to a city impound lot. During a search of the area an officer heard the suspect shout out. He was found sitting under a tree at the corner of Kennedy and Sycamore streets. He allegedly gave a false name and said he wasn’t driving his own car, nor was he involved in any crash. Police allegedly found marijuana in the car.
--Cited a 50-year-old Minnesota man for criminal trespassing and an open alcohol container last week Thursday night, April 26, outside the law offices of Bye, Goff & Rohde 258 Riverside Drive. There had been reports of a homeless man on a bike drinking and littering in that area. An officer allegedly found the suspect had two Gatorade bottles filled with liquor. The man, who was sitting on a bench next to his bicycle, said he never littered but instead used the law firm’s dumpster. He also said he’d been sleeping overnight near the bridge of North Main Street and Paulson Road. He was booked at the police station and given fines totaling just over $260.
