Former Wildcat Marty Herum was named UW-Whitewater’s Player of the Week for his performance in two Warhawk baseball games against the University of Southern Maine May 27-28 in Lake Myrtle, Fla.
Herum hit for a .632 batting average (12-for-19) with five doubles, one triple, four runs batted in and a walk in the two game set. His week was highlighted by a 5-for-5 performance March 28, where his day included two doubles, a triple and two runs scored in a 16-5 Warhawk victory.
Herum, a redshirt freshman, has started all 17 games at first base for the Warhawks this season and is batting .400 with seven doubles, one triple and 15 RBI as the team’s cleanup hitter. The Warhawks are ranked No. 21 in the D3baseball.com poll released April 3 and are currently 11-6 overall, 2-2 in WIAC play.
Herum was a three-time All-Big Rivers Conference and two-time All-Northwest District player with the Wildcats from 2007-10, accumulating a batting average of .489 over his four-year high school career. He also was a key member of the River Falls Fighting Fish team that won the 2011 Wisconsin Baseball Association championship, hitting .327 in 24 games.
