Emerson earns All-American honors at UWSP
Former Wildcat state champion Eric Emerson earned All-American honors at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis March 21-24 as a member of the UW-Stevens Point 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relay teams.
Former Wildcat state champion Eric Emerson earned All-American honors at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis March 21-24 as a member of the UW-Stevens Point 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relay teams.
Emerson, a junior at UWSP, helped the Pointer men to a ninth place team finish at the national meet held at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Natatorium March and hosted by Franklin College (Ind.).
Emerson swam the second leg on the Pointers’ 200 freestyle relay team that finished third with a time of 1 minute, 21.1 seconds. He also swam the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed eighth in 3:01.94.
Previously, Emerson helped the Pointers’ 200 freestyle relay team to a first place finish at the WIAC Championships Feb. 16-18 in Brown Deer with a new conference meet record time of 1:21.87.
Emerson, a 2009 River Falls High School graduate, was a four-time state qualifier for the Wildcats and won the WIAA state title in the 100 freestyle his senior year. He won a total of four Big Rivers Conference championships, two in the 100 freestyle and one each in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
