Letter: New group gives voice to real people

A local organization, WIvoices.org, is giving voice to Wisconsinites who have been affected by politics and policies during these trying political times.

The impetus for this organization was a frustration with “the lack of information detailing how public policy changes affect real people.” Perhaps you’ve read some of their interviews or viewed their video documentaries online.

Some compelling and informative stories have been picked up by the media, such as MSNBC, Huffington Post, and local news The Hudson Patch and The Pioneer Press.

I appreciate these stories because they reveal a truth (sometimes heartbreaking) in rich and textured detail.

Because so many folks want to tell their stories, WIvoices.org has a long waiting list. Although the people who collect these stories are working for no pay, the project still requires money for travel and board.

WIvoices.org hopes to raise money (to cover expenses) so that it can continue to give voice to people across the state. Check out www.WIvoices.org for their fundraising pitch!

You will want to see this wonderful video. And while you are at the site, check out some of the stories.
