Fast-thinking bus driver credited for spotting drunk driver

In northwest Wisconsin, school officials say conscientious bus driver Kimberly Lincoln avoided a major tragedy by keeping youngsters in her bus as an alleged drunk driver sped by.

In northwest Wisconsin, school officials say conscientious bus driver Kimberly Lincoln avoided a major tragedy by keeping youngsters in her bus as an alleged drunk driver sped by. It happened last Friday afternoon, March 23, about a mile south of Bruce on Highway 40.

Michael Malone, 58, allegedly passed the school bus by making a dangerous maneuver. He was arrested and charged with his 11th drunk-driving offense. He refused to take a test a for intoxication, so charges are pending on that in Chippewa County while he also faces felony endangerment charges in Rusk County.

Police say they found Malone passed out in his car about 28 miles from where he struck the mailbox and almost hit the bus. His car reportedly hit and mailbox and failed to stop.

A witness managed to get a license number and turned it in to authorities.
