Grow to Share Inc. is a nonprofit local organization formed in 2009 to address the growing issue of hunger. Food is grown in community gardens and donated to food pantries and shelters throughout the area.
Grow to Share was organized with three objectives in mind.
First was to assist those in need by supplying area food pantries and shelters with healthy food at no cost. Grow to Share gardens provide fresh produce that adds needed nutrition and variety to the diet of their clients.
Second, Grow to Share strives to promote sustainable agriculture by providing a working example of local food production that uses environmentally sound practices.
By showcasing sustainable methods in a highly visible public environment, it can be demonstrated that anyone can produce their own food with little effort or impact.
The third goal is to strengthen community relationships by providing a place for fellowship and educational opportunities.
A Grow to Share garden offers a friendly environment for all to work together for a common cause.
Grow to Share leases three acres on the north side of Hoffman Park East. The produced is harvested for donation to local food pantries as well as for personal consumption by volunteers.
While monetary and material donations are important, this project relies upon people willing to give their free time for the benefit of others.
An annual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the River Falls High School Media Center.
The meeting with include an introduction of the board, a 2011 review, a presentation of the garden plan for 2012, and information for those interested in volunteering with Grow to Share.
If you cannot make it, but are interested in volunteering, please send an email to email@example.com.
