Arts Minded: The birds are singing and spring fever is abound
When, I ask you, have you heard more bird songs and seen more ducks and geese dancing on the Kinni in early March?By: Phyllis Goldin, columnist, River Falls Journal
When, I ask you, have you heard more bird songs and seen more ducks and geese dancing on the Kinni in early March?
It is said by birders in the know, that the cardinal has gone from its winter song to its summer song weeks early.
Despite the fervent wishes of some to ski again in the thick, resplendent snows that usually blanket these northern climates in this season, we must shift our sights instead to canoeing and kayaking rivers that have long since cast off their temporary fish houses and are flowing free.
Many of us have deeper concerns about the meaning and consequences of global warming, but that is the stuff that invokes and stimulates creative responses.
Artists are often on the cutting edge of social change and environmental protection. One example is local writer and performer, Gina Citoli’s original show, “Cabaret of Consciousness.” Keep track of her if you cannot get there this time.
UW-River Falls’ Spring Dance Concert is just around the corner. Every year new choreography offers responses to the human condition, international pieces and plenty of whimsy and fun.
A plethora of other exciting events awaits those with spring culture fever. In particular, there are some ever popular annual events you won’t want to miss; “Bowls for Hope”, “Unity in the Community”, UW-RF “International Bazaar” and the Community Arts Base Spring Gala.
