Non-traditional students pursuing degrees in health care have until April 20 to apply for a scholarship from the River Falls Area Hospital Foundation.
The goal of the Health Careers Scholarship Program for Non-Traditional Students is to increase the number of health care providers practicing in the region served by the Foundation. This region includes River Falls and the surrounding communities of Hudson, Ellsworth, Spring Valley and Prescott.
Scholarships of $500 per academic session are available to a limited number of eligible health care professional students. The number of scholarships awarded will be determined by the board based on the number of applicants and available funds.
To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must live or work in the region served by the River Falls Area Hospital and be accepted or enrolled in an accredited program.
A student may be enrolled full-time or part-time. Applicants must have at least one year of work experience after high school; applications from high school seniors will not be considered.
In selecting award recipients, preference will be given to applicants who are (1) pursuing degrees that meet an identified provider shortage in the region, and (2) have a demonstrated commitment to practice in the region. Other factors that will favorably influence selection include a work history in a hospital, clinic or other medical setting; demonstrated financial need; and demonstrated potential for academic success.
Applications for fall semester are due April 20, 2012.

The River Falls Area Hospital Foundation raises money for programs, services and equipment that the hospital might not otherwise be able to afford. Funds raised by the foundation support the hospital, which in turn works to meet the health needs of the community.
