Calling all leprechauns

Anyone looking for some St. Patrick’s Day fun need not travel any farther than Main Street in downtown River Falls.

Anyone looking for some St. Patrick’s Day fun need not travel any farther than Main Street in downtown River Falls.

The Chamber of Commerce plans an afternoon of fun, food and frivolity that anyone can join.

Several downtown businesses will offer specials, including refillable event cups, green beer, and live music.

Hunt for medallion

Medallion seekers will find clues posted in Veterans Park beginning at 1 p.m.

The lucky person to find the medallion receives $200 in Chamber Checks, which they can spend at any business that is a chamber member.

Spud soup

Organizers took seriously the suggestion from a few people that instead of a chili-cooking contest, like the one held during each River Dazzle event, that the St. Patty’s Day event include a potato-soup contest. The concept works the same was as a chili cook off -- taste the different concoctions then vote for a favorite.

Beds will roll

For the 3rd year in a row, teams of four “pushers” and one “rider” will at 5 p.m., start racing up and down Main Street on beds modified to roll well and hopefully, go fast.

The event delivers fun for spectators and participants as everyone brings their competitive best to master the challenges of the race course, which in the past have included blowing up balloons, sinking a basketball into a hoop and various other during-the-race activities.

Winners will be presented their awards at 8 p.m. in the Corner Bar.

Poker in the cards

The Patty O’ Poker Walk goes 4-8 p.m. at participating business locations; visitors to them grab a card then see what kind of poker hand they’re holding when the contest ends.

Card collectors will compare hands at 8:30 p.m. in the Corner Bar. The top hand wins a $10 bar tab plus other prizes will be awarded. Learn more at the Chamber’s web site: www.rfchamber.com.
