Congress honors Cheesehead inventor

Wisconsin News
The Wisconsin state Assembly honored Ralph Bruno, the founder of Foamation, the company that makes the famous Cheesehead hats.

The Wisconsin state Assembly honored Ralph Bruno, the founder of Foamation, the company that makes the famous Cheesehead hats. The governmental body drafted a resolution recognizing the company.

In 1987, Chicago Bears fans called Bruno a Cheesehead, which inspired him to make the first-ever cheese hat using stuffing from his couch. It didn’t take long for Packers fans to want to wear them to games.

Soon the triangular foam hats became an enduring symbol of Wisconsin.

Cheesehead lore grew even larger in 1995, when Frank Emmert Junior of Superior was about to crash his light plane and credited the soft cheese hat for saving his life.

Today, Cheesehead hats are sold in all 50 states and in over 30 foreign countries.
