Special Meeting Minutes
February 9, 2012
The special scheduled joint meeting of the River Falls Board of Education and Common Council of the City of River Falls was called to order on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 5:04 p.m. by President Stacy Johnson Myers in the River Falls District Office conference room, 852 E Division Street. It was ascertained that notice of the meeting had been properly posted at the appointed locations, published in The River Falls Journal and announcements sent to WEVR Radio Station, St. Paul Pioneer Press, and the Eau Claire Leader Telegram.
PRESENT
School Board President Stacy Johnson Myers, Vice President Dennis Behnke, Treasurer Manville Kenney, Clerk Barbara Kolpin and members Rich Gerczak, Mike Miller and Alan Tuchtenhagen were present for the Board of Education. Present from the City of River Falls were Mayor Don Richards, Randy Kusilek, David Cronk, Scott Morrissette, Tom Caflisch, David Reese, Scot Simpson, Buddy Lucero, Reid Wronski, Julie Bergstrom and Police Council Roger LeQue. Also present from the school district were Superintendent Tom Westerhaus, Finance Director Chad Smurawa, Director of Personnel Donna Hill, Information Technology Supervisor Brian Dado, Community Education Coordinator Monique Squire, and Administrative Assistant Darlene MacBride. Council member Bob Hughes arrived at 5:07. Board member Alan Tuchtenhagen arrived at 5:19 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Rich Gerczak moved to approve the agenda; seconded by Mike Miller. Motion carried.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS
Johnson Myer thanked the Council for attending the joint meeting and expressed gratitude for their willingness to meet. Introductions were made.
DISCUSSION OF QUESTIONS OF INTEREST
Information about the following questions was shared from both the school board and council:
A. What new projects are happening in the City and School District, including population growth and enrollments, board projects, and construction projects?
B. What’s happening with the school district’s forest and other environmental (sustainability) issues in the city and district?
C. What ways can we see further collaboration in such areas as Community Education/Parks and Rec, repurposing of the Academy building, traffic/road issues, etc.?
D. What initiatives do you see happening in technology and communication in the coming years?
E. What other goals or strategic plan initiatives are each of the entities working on that might be of interest to the other?

President Johnson Myers declared the meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
