Both the UW-River Falls men’s and women’s basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end Friday night with losses in the first round of their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments.

The 17th-ranked Falcon men lost to Edgewood College, 75-67, at Karges Center while the 22nd-ranked women lost, 72-61, to Coe College in St. Paul.

The UWRF men made a furious late-game run to cut a 24-point deficit to five in the final minute but couldn’t get any closer in their loss to Northern Athletic Conference champion Edgewood.

Edgewood led 33-26 at the half and opened up a 24-point lead, 61-37, with nine minutes remaining before the Falcons forced six Eagle turnovers during a 15-2 run to cut the deficit to 63-52 with four minutes left.

The Falcons made it a five-point game, 72-67, on a three-pointer by Aaron Anderson with 25 seconds remaining but that’s as close as they could get.

Shane Manor led UWRF with 16 points and Wade Guerin scored 14 while Anderson finished with 12.

In the women’s first-round game on the campus of St. Thomas in St. Paul Alise Holst had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Tiffany Gregorich scored 17 points but the Falcons never led in a 72-61 loss to Coe.
