Fire spurs breeder-license revocation

State officials say they’ll revoke a dog breeder’s license after authorities found unsanitary conditions in the wake of a fire at the breeder’s home near Chippewa Falls.

Chippewa County sheriff’s deputies said firefighters were overcome by the smell of dog feces and urine from a kennel that had about 60 animals. State agriculture officials said they revoked Katherine Henry’s breeding license due to concerns about a lack of kennel space, ventilation, and proper food.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram said Henry had not commented on the license revocation – but she recently defended her care of the dogs. State officials in Madison said they could not immediately reach Henry – but once she’s contacted, she’ll have 10 days to challenge the license revocation.

Without a license, she can still own the dogs unless local officials object. She cannot sell more than 25 per year under a recent state law that clamps down on puppy mills.
