The City of River Falls is issuing the following statement in anticipation of the predicted winter storm event. If the event unfolds as predicted, a mix of heavy accumulating snow, sleet, rain and ice can be expected beginning in the late afternoon on Tuesday, Feb. 28th.

City Departments have engaged in planning and preparation for this event, including pretreating of roadways and planning for necessary staff and equipment resources.

During periods of significant snow fall and ice accumulation, priority will be given to maintaining primary and secondary roadways within the City until the snowfall subsides and then turning attention to residential streets and alleys.

As part of the planning for this event, we ask the River Falls Community to assist in preparation by:

• Being aware of parking restrictions including overnight and alternate night parking rules and to make sure vehicles are lawfully parked. Unlawfully parked vehicles can hinder plowing activities and are subject to ticketing and towing. Parking information can be found at the Police Department website at www.rfcity.org/police_home.asp, or by calling 715-425-0909.

• Minimize travel during snow events to avoid unnecessary risk and inconvenience.

• Following general guidelines for winter storm preparation that can be found at the following American Red Cross website at www.redcross.org/www-files/Documents/pdf/Preparedness/WinterStorms.pdf.

• In the event power outages exist, customers are asked to immediately notify River Falls Municipal Utilities at 715-425-0906 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or at the emergency after hour’s number of 715-425-0939.

The City Council will meet as scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall and the Library will be open until 8 p.m. as scheduled.
