LETTER: Republicans love to boss us around in the bedroom

I'm waiting for the downtown River Falls rally where we get to see all the people who oppose contraception. Maybe they will take the opportunity to get their anti-abortion signs out of storage to hold in their right hand as they decry the evils of contraception with a sign in their left hand.

Or maybe we'll get some folks who are against sex education in public schools joining to enlarge the crowd. We might even get some old supporters of President George Dubya to find the signs they carried in support of his policy to keep prophylactics from being distributed in Africa to combat the AIDS epidemic, a policy which resulted in millions of deaths across the continent and one guided by so-called) religious leaders and endorsed by the Pope.

Again we see how Republicans define religious freedom as the right to impose the doctrine of their faith upon others.

Again we see how Republicans are at ease attacking the president even when they get what they want, and coverage for hormonal contraceptives is passed on to the insurance companies, releasing religious institutions from "violating" their beliefs.

Again we see the sad sideshow of a party which has lost any sense of integrity, decency, and sanity, all of which have been tossed aside because they find themselves opposed to a president who is committed to decency, sanity and integrity.

It is hard to take the high ground on issues where you find yourself having to lie to the American people to show President Obama as a threat to the well-being of this country.

The only "religious war" in this country is being waged by those who justify their positions on issues by referencing what they find in their holy books, quoting to us all what "God" wants us to do.
