Students compete at regional spelling bee

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, four local students, Aleah Nelson, Greenwood Elementary, Kathryn Field, Meyer Middle School, Abbey Markey, Rocky Branch Elementary and Calla Dexheimer, Westside Elementary competed at the CESA #11 Southern Regional Spelling Bee, held at Viking Middle School in Woodville.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, four local students, Aleah Nelson, Greenwood Elementary, Kathryn Field, Meyer Middle School, Abbey Markey, Rocky Branch Elementary and Calla Dexheimer, Westside Elementary competed at the CESA #11 Southern Regional Spelling Bee, held at Viking Middle School in Woodville.

To qualify for the regional bee the girls had to win spelling bees held at their respective schools.

12 communities - Baldwin/Woodville, Durand, Elk Mound, Elmwood, Hammond/Roberts, Hudson, Menomonie, Prescott, River Falls, Somerset, and Spring Valley -- sent 21, 4th - 8th grade students to compete.

There was one 4th grader, five 5th graders, four 6th graders, six 7th graders and five 8th graders competing.

River Falls students did well but were unable to qualify for the state bee held in Madison.
