Governor candidate excites River Falls crowd

Democrat State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, who has announced her bid to run for governor in the expected summer recall election, spoke before a large crowd in the lower level of the River Falls Public Library Sunday afternoon. Vinehout, a former dairy farmer and college professor from Alma, represents a chunk of the River Falls area in Pierce County.
In her speech Sunday, she called for a return of “mutual respect” in state politics and a “vision of prosperity that provides for the common good for all.”
“We need a fresh start to heal the divisions,” said Vinehout, 53, who added she tries to live life by Gandhi’s adage: ‘Be the change you want to see.’
She also referred to Republican-dominated legislation in 2011 as representing the “tyranny of a slight majority.”
Kathleen Falk, a Madison Democrat, has also said she’s running to unseat Gov. Scott Walker. Falk lost to Jim Doyle in the 2002 Democrat primary for governor.
